Rare,  US Naval letter from rating William .p. Shelmire No267 served on the UsS Guerriere 1870-1872. part of the Mediterranean squadron. two letters written to his sweetheart home in New York from Lisbon, Egypt sent Via English post in London. QV stamps have been torn.
UUS Guerriere was built and named in Honour of the British ship that battled with the USS Constitution in the war of independence 100 years before.
